The era of Princess Yona and the Four Dragons is officially drawing to a close. Mizuho Kusanagi’s beloved shoujo fantasy manga, “Yona of the Dawn” (Akatsuki no Yona) is set to publish its final chapter in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine on December 19, 2025, concluding an epic 16 year serialization.
The news was confirmed by the magazine’s official accounts, marking the end of a long and emotional journey that began back in 2009. The manga recently returned in October after a hiatus that spanned part of the summer and the final three chapters will now rapidly bring the grand finale. The 47th and final compiled book volume is scheduled to ship in February 2026.
A Legacy of Resilience and Romance
Yona of the Dawn quickly established itself as a cornerstone of modern shoujo fantasy. The story follows Princess Yona, who is forced to flee the palace after witnessing the murder of her pacifist father, King Il, by her beloved cousin, Su-won. Accompanied only by her fierce guard, Hak, Yona embarks on a quest across the kingdom to find the reincarnated Four Dragon Warriors, gaining strength and purpose as she fights to reclaim her destiny.
Though the manga has been in its final arc since June 2024, the sudden announcement that only three chapters remain has generated intense discussion among the fandom. Readers are hoping that Kusanagi, who stated the decision on the wrapping point was made at the last possible moment, can tie off all remaining plot threads from Yona and Hak’s relationship to the fate of the Dragon Warriors’ power in a satisfying and non rushed conclusion.
The series previously inspired a 24 episode television anime in 2014 and its conclusion has reignited calls from fans for a full anime remake or continuation to adapt the rest of the epic story.
