Following a week of speculation, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, has officially confirmed that their new manga, initially teased as “Mojuro” is an official sequel to the main series. The full title is “Jujutsu Kaisen 3: Mojuro” and it is set to provide the continuation many fans have been craving since the original manga’s abrupt ending in 2024.
As reported last week in various outlets, including this article from Manga Predictions, Gege Akutami was launching a new manga but its connection to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe was initially unclear. The newly surfaced information however confirms that this is not just a new work but a direct continuation of the franchise.
The new manga is a short-term serialization, planned for roughly three volumes over about six months, with the first chapter dropping in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 7, 2025. The art will be handled by Yuji Iwasaki known for his work on Cipher Academy, allowing Akutami to focus solely on the story.
The plot is a massive leap forward, taking place decades after the original series. It will focus on two new protagonists: Yukka Okkotsu and Tsuruji Okkotsu, who are the grandchildren of fan favorite characters Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. This reveal officially makes Yuta and Maki a canonical couple in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. With Yuta and Maki having passed away from old age in this new timeline, the story will explore a new generation of sorcerers and the new threats they face.
In a message to fans, Akutami addressed his decision to return to the series, stating that he had previously turned down offers for spin offs to maintain creative control. However, the idea of exploring a “parallel line” or a different era of the Jujutsu Kaisen world was a spark that led to the creation of “Mojuro” which he hopes will be seen as a “new entry point into the world of jujutsu.”
